There is a current lack of community based and school programs established for youth development. Due to the recent global events, there has been a substantial increase in serious violent crimes among the youth. These violent offenders not only have a negative impact on their community and family, they have a negative influence on other youth in the school setting.
Youth outreach programs have a proven record of success and best practices to improve school attendance and interest in higher education. Evidence shows that well-designed Positive Youth Development interventions can lead to positive outcomes.
Positive youth development (PYD) interventions provides all youth with:
- Support
- Relationships
- Experiences
- Resources and
- Opportunities
needed to become competent, thriving adults.
According to Youth.gov, “Positive youth development is an intentional, prosocial approach that engages youth within their communities, schools, organizations, peer groups, and families in a manner that is productive and constructive; recognizes, utilizes, and enhances young people’s strengths; and promotes positive outcomes for young people by providing opportunities, fostering positive relationships and furnishing the support needed to build on their leadership strengths.”
